GMR Vasavi's Basin Bridge 200 MW Diesel Power Plant

GMR Vasavi's Basin Bridge 200 MW Diesel Power Plant is the first private sector power plant in Tamil Nadu, India, housing four of the world's largest single, Hyundai -  MAN B&W diesel engine generators of 50 MW each.   This power plant is located in Chennai (Madras).

I.D.E.A carried out detail engineering for Hyundai including that of pile foundation for the main plant building and other critical equipment,  and electrical, instrumentation, piping and mechanical items of the above plant.

The power plant is designed to provide trouble-free, parallel operation with the existing 110-kV grid facility of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).

Power generated is exported to the TNEB grid through 11-kV / 110-kV generator transformer and a 110-kV switchyard.

Considering the size of the DG sets and the associated auxiliary systems and the quantum of detailing required, it was a challenging task for I.D.E.A to complete the engineering to fit into the overall project schedule and meet the stringent quality requirements.   The plant was commissioned ahead of schedule.
